In 1977 the first part of the Amsterdam metro system was established. It ran from the South East to the city centre. FDC: 2 November 1988. |
|
The railway ran straight through the Dutch city of Tilburg, causing gigantic traffic problems. Vehicles had to wait at the railway crossings for a quarter of an hour to half an hour and sometimes even longer. Therefore the railway was hightened up to a level that roads could go under the railway line. But that involved building a new railway station. Work on the project began in 1957 and was completed in 1965. The envelope shows the new station with a spectacular prawn crackers (¨kroepoek¨) roof. FDC: 1 October 1988. |

With the opening of the Zalmplaat station - Spijkenisse route on 25 April 1985, the north-south line of the Rotterdam metro network underwent an important expansion. Spijkenisse was given a direct connection to the centre of Rotterdam. The Spijkenisse-centrum metro station is built around a viaduct, with the platform resting on delta-shaped steel girders.
